There is a strong sense of community and a lively social scene with many awesome events held throughout the year for people of all ages. One of the most notable is Sparta Day, which features food, games, and entertainment. 
 
There are lots of lush outdoor spaces to unwind in nature, ranging from open fields to picturesque lakes. Lake Mohawk is a favorite destination for many and has a wonderful boardwalk. It is also a gathering spot for seasonal celebrations such as the Sparta Dragon Boat Festival, where teams compete in an ancient Chinese pastime. Lake Mohawk is the largest artificial body of water in the state of New Jersey that is a private lake. There is the main lake and the Alpine Pool, both of which are spring fed. The water from the Alpine Pool cascades down gracefully from a spring that rises from an even higher peak in the mountains. 
 
The distinctive architect in the town center was a major aspect of listing Lake Mohawk on the National Register of Historic Places. The buildings in the town center are that of an alpine architectural style, or resemble small castles. This area is named White Deer Plaza after a Native American who lent her name to the center.
 
Another popular destination in the community is Camp Sacajawea, which holds the beloved Sparta Renaissance Festival. With terrific activities like archery, thrilling performances like fire breathing, and tons of unique vendors, it’s an absolute blast to attend. Sparta is also the former home of The German Christmas Market and known for its artisan goods and cheerful games during the holiday season. The event gained such enormous popularity near and far that beginning in 2022, it has now been relocated to The Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta, NJ.
